JLOE provides a platform to disseminate original research that examines public and community engagement initiatives and stimulates a forum to discuss the methodological and epistemological issues that inform, or emerge from, such projects and programs.

Frequency and Schedule of Publication

Each issue will contain a letter from the editor(s), a minimum of four scholarly articles, four or more feature articles, an "Idea Lab" feature, and optionally other solicited content.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. JLOE issues are published once a year, with publication prepared during later summer. To be considered for the upcoming issue, submit your work by the middle of May in order to ensure enough time to be reviewed for the next issue. Works submitted after this date will be considered for publication for the following issue.

Types of Content Included

We welcome articles or editorials that present original research, case studies, or comparable material that advance library outreach and engagement discussions. Authors and their submissions represent libraries of all types, including academic, public, school, and special libraries and archives.

Scholarly Review

Scholarly submissions will undergo a double-anonymous peer review process. For more information, please read our “Submissions” page.
