Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines. Submission must have not been previously published, nor currently in consideration before another journal. The permission with the proper ethics committees, organizations, and/or institutions must be obtained to publish all figures, datasets, and other material provided with this submission.
Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own.
If accepted for peer-review, please revise your manuscript in accordance with the reviewer’s comments. When revising in Microsoft Word, please use the “Track Changes” feature found under the Tools tab. When revising, please highlight any changes in red. The resubmission should contain a clean version with the changes applied and one version with revisions.
We accept Word documents and PDFs generated from our latex template, the link is here: University of Illinois Journal of Medicine Template - Overleaf, Online LaTeX Editor. When using word, please number each line and use continuous numbering.
All submissions must submit a separate Microsoft Word document to keep a list of reviewer’s comments and provide a response to each comment acknowledging the changes or explaining why you did not make a change. If submitting a previously rejected article, please include in your cover letter the reason for your rejection and why we believe it should be accepted for resubmission.
General Requirements:
- Cover Letter - 1 page
- Title Page
- Title (~200 characters including spaces) and running title (40 characters including spaces) of the article
- Email address of the corresponding author
- Author names and affiliations
- If greater than 5 authors, please list individual author contributions
- Recommend up to 3 reviewers for your submission (optional)
- One form disclosing any conflict of interests
- Please list any relevant disclosures for each authors, which includes financial, relevant academic or advisory positions, and funding. If the author is unsure if something is a conflict of interest, we recommend you add it to the form.
- Manuscript
- The Manuscript should contain the abstract and the body of the text with the relevant tables and figures. The figures and tables must be included in the manuscript files either at the end or within the body of the text.
- Figures
- Separate JPEG files must be submitted for each figure.
- Supplemental Material - submit in PDF
Please provide a list of references in the AMA style. Citations must be numerically referenced in the text and arranged in ascending order. The reference list should exclude unpublished materials or personal communications. References should appear after the text and before any addendum.

UIJM articles are published by IOPN which supports open-access publishing using the Creative Common (CC) License. UIJM currently only publishes CC-BY and CC-BY-NC licenses. Briefly summarized, copyright is held by the author(s), but must provide the UIJM with a license to publish the article and recognize it as the original publisher. Furthermore, authors permit any third party to use the article freely, as long as they maintain its integrity and acknowledge the original authors, citation details, and publisher. These and other publishing terms and conditions are formalized under the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0.

(1) Upon submitting an article to any IOPN-published journals, I affirm that I have the consent of my co-authors for this action. The article is original, unpublished in any other peer-reviewed journal, not under review elsewhere, and free from any copyright or third-party rights infringements. I/we have ensured the article’s integrity, and to the best of my/our knowledge, all factual statements in the article are true, and any formula or instruction will not harm the user if followed accurately. Furthermore, the authors attest that they have the necessary permissions to publish and disseminate their work (i.e. proper IRB approval or Declaration of Helenski).
(2) I/we, as the sole author(s), have full authority to enter into this agreement without violating any other obligations. The article is lawful, non-libelous, and its publication will not breach any contracts, confidentiality, or secrecy commitments. If the article is accepted for publication, I and all co-authors agree to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0. The conditions stated in this agreement pertaining to the originality of the article, authorship, and the absence of any legal infringements will remain applicable and take precedence.
