Boogaloo, Baby!: They Made It Great

About this Edition

In early 2019, Thais Rezende Da Silva De Sant'ana approached SourceLab with a potential project that would explore boogaloo as a musical and dance movement throughout the United States and Latin America. Given the freedom to choose the source, we decided that an audio recording of "Bang Bang" by Joe Cuba would serve as an ideal entry point to the wider movement due to the fact that it is one of the earliest recorded boogaloo songs that achieved popularity.
