The Birth of Pussy Riot: Six Early Songs

A column of insurgents marches on the Kremlin

As in their previous songs, Pussy Riot is once again calling for a massive, nationwide protest against the current political regime in Russia that is headed by none other than Vladimir Putin. To do this, they are inviting and asking the people to protest, occupy, and seize important cultural locations (like the Kremlin) in order to incite political change. In the protest described in this verse, Pussy Riot is fictionally marching against the Kremlin, Putin’s hot seat of power, while attacking the offices of the FSB. The FSB, the Federal Security Service (Federal’naya sluzhba bezopasnosti) are widely considered to be the KGB of modern Russia and are disliked by many.
