The Birth of Pussy Riot: Six Early Songs

And then your life’s gonna be those rancid socks

This verse is using the repeated imagery of “rancid socks” (protukhshie noski) as a metaphor for what men represent in the eyes of Pussy Riot. To them, men and their “rancid socks” are representative of how women are taught to enter into relationships with men that stifle and sicken them over time. This occurs in a cycle throughout women’s lives, from their fathers to their husbands to most likely their sons. Pussy Riot is stating that if you (as a woman) give into and follow the cycle of marrying those “rancid socks,” your life will forever be tied to something that weighs you down and sickens you.
