The Birth of Pussy Riot: Six Early Songs

Your mom lives in a prison

This verse serves to further expand upon the thought of the previous one by creating an image of what a woman becomes after she ties herself to those “rancid socks.” In the eyes of men, all she is good for is cleaning and working in the kitchen. She is no longer living for herself, she exists only to please a man, which can be her father or husband or son. To Pussy Riot, this is servitude in lieu of life. Deeming this woman to be every woman’s “mom” makes this message both universally understood and quite personal at the same time.
