Authors
This project capitalizes on the discovery of written works by African American women of the Civil War era. These works provide us with reading material for enlightenment and enjoyment. In addition to the full text of each author's works, the project provides images, biographical information, historic newspaper articles, and secondary material.
“Authors” offers a variety of information about the authors collected within the project. This provides insight into their lives. The demographic information incorporated for each author includes status at birth (free or enslaved), birth year, place of birth, places of residence, and occupations. The page for each author also links to a historic essay and a Wikipedia entry about the author. The historic essays contextualize the women within their time period. The Wikipedia entries provide a potential means to locate and evaluate primary biographical sources.
