Hoovervilles

Named after the unpopular President Herbert Hoover who was blamed for the government's lack of relief during the start of The Great Depression. They were shantytowns constructed of cardboard, paper, and other salvageable materials by the homeless. Photos of Hoovervilles can be found here: https://photogrammar.org/maps/caption/hooverville.
