XIX Olympiad, Mexico City, Mexico, 1968

In October 1968, Mexico City hosted the XIX Olympic Games. More than 5,000 athletes from more than 100 countries participated in the competition. In the series entitled Olympic Games, the Avery Brundage collection contains five boxes (#192 to #196) with detailed material covering the arrangements and organization, the unfolding of the games, and the evaluation after its conclusion. The papers are dated from about 1965 to about 1970 and include official documents, as well as media clippings published by the Mexican and international press.   

 

The series entitled Publications in the collection includes several periodicals, newsletters, and bulletins covering the XIX Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968, published in Spanish and in English. The Publications series also contains brochures and official programs that were printed and distributed for the XIX Olympiads.

 

The series Clippings in the Brundage papers includes several boxes with material about Brundage’s trips to Mexico in the 1960s and in the 1970s (box 308) and interviews with the Mexican press (boxes 312 and 313), for example. The collection also includes an interview in 16 mm (series Films and Tapes), photographs and other material from his travels to Mexico (series Photographs, Travel, and Photo albums) and the promotional content produced by the Mexican Organizing Committee (series Oversize File).
