Courtship, Community, and Conflict: Montgomery County in the Civil War

William F. Sanders

William F. Sanders was a friend of Sophronia McNitt who lived one town over. Less is known about his life than some of the other men in this edition due to his lack of military records, but through his letters, one can gain a better understanding of the Montgomery County Community. His letters show his fondness of going to dances with friends, engaging in local debates, and hunting. Sanders was interested in the County's social affairs, such as who got married and who passed away. He also had ambitions to join the military, or so he wrote to Sophronia, though he never enlisted.
