Peter Kim, Editor-in-Chief, Co-Founder
Taehyung Peter Kim obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and a Master’s in Engineering at McGill University. He is an active researcher with expertise pertaining to radiopharmaceutical therapies, especially regarding its clinical integration, dosimetry, and treatment planning. Since 2019, he has worked with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), co-hosting an international initiative called the SIRPRISE Grand Challenge and consulting for several AAPM Task Groups. Dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and its dissemination, he founded the University of Illinois Journal of Medicine (UIJM).
Justin Kim, Deputy Editor, Co-Founder
Justin Kim is currently a medical student at Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics from Johns Hopkins University. Justin has a strong research background in ENT and neurosurgical instrument design, orthobiologics, and bone biomechanics. Additionally, he holds several patents for medical devices and has considerable experience in entrepreneurship with medical device startup.
Helen Kemprecos, Associate Editor
Helen Kemprecos is a medical student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Physics minor at New York University (NYU). During that time, she was a recipient of an NIH Training Program in Computational Neuroscience Grant and has continued to do neuroscience research since then. Additionally, Helen has published in dermatology and has expanded her research interests to oncology and ophthalmology. Helen has experience editing and writing, having been a Senior Writing Tutor at NYU and as Fulbrighter to Turkey, teaching English. Helen is excited about the potential to communicate complex ideas that bridge engineering and medicine through the UIJM platform.
Usama Ismail, Associate Editor
Usama’s research background is rooted in solid mechanics, mechanobiology, microfluidics, and organ-on-a-chip devices. Earning a bachelor and masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, he has a strong background in engineering and its relationship with the medical field. After graduation, Usama served as a quality manager and R&D engineer for Caeli Vascular Inc. A medical device startup pioneering new technology in the field of surgical deep vein thrombosis. He has a broad understanding of both medical device innovation, and development, as well as the regulatory and quality processes. He looks forward to curating and developing new medical and engineering intersections for UIJM.
Alexis Watson, Associate Editor
Alexis Watson is a dedicated medical student at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, holding a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University. With a solid foundation in scientific principles and interdisciplinary study, Alexis brings a unique perspective shaped by her background in playing D1 athletics and study of engineering. Her past research experience spans fields such as orthopedics, ophthalmology, immunology, and pulmonology, reflecting her commitment to exploring various facets of medical science. As an Associate Editor of UIJM, Alexis is deeply committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publications. Leveraging her multifaceted experiences and expertise, she intends to drive the advancement of medical knowledge and foster collaboration within the academic community.
Anthony Wong, Editorial Manager
Anthony Wong is a medical student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He brings a robust background in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His previous research endeavors concentrated on the detection of genetic variations among individuals diagnosed with autism and language impairments. At UIJM, he hopes to leverage his past experiences to uphold the standards of excellence in scholarly publications as Co-Editorial Manager.
