Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: A Critical Edition

Smile, Smile, Smile

There does not appear to be a real book by this name, although in her introduction to the Penguin edition of Blondes Loos says "Smile, smile, smile" were the "words of [Lorelei's] favorite philosopher." It is possible that the title is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the World War I marching song, "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile," and the Wilfred Owen anti-war poem "Smile, Smile, Smile," which was written as a satire of the Broadway song and portrays politicians sending children off to slaughter.
