Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: A Critical Edition

Palm Beach

Palm Beach was one of a number of Florida coastal cities that experienced a boom in the early 1920s, due to rampant real estate speculation and population growth. Frederick Lewis Allen, who chronicled the Florida boom in his account of the twenties, Only Yesterday, identified the summer of 1925 (the final months of the magazine installments of Blondes) as the height of the mania. The accompanying page of newspaper advertisements is dominated by ads for Florida coastal properties as seasonal or permanent homes.
